About ME

Who am I and How Did I Learn the Secrets?

I’m Linda, a mom on a mission to be better than I was yesterday.

If truth be told, I wasn’t always this fabulous. I’m not even as good as I will be tomorrow.

Somewhere along the line my life had gotten out of control. Extra-curricular actives ran late, homework hadn’t been started, what to make for dinner had not gelled as an idea let alone materialized as something sizzling in a pan. I was a crazed and exhausted mom yearning to slay the maniacal demon I’d become. Sound familiar? Something had to change and that something was me.

I was determined to figure this out. I was a lawyer for goodness sake. Organizational skills up the wazoo. Cooking skills- smack dab confident and creative- owner of over 1000 cookbooks, a graduate of Rouxbe Cooking School and Institute of Integrative Nutrition, countless cooking courses from the International Culinary Center and Natural Gourmet Institute and other sundry cooking meccas under my belt.

A son who is gluten and lactose intolerant, a daughter and husband who are willing to eat any and everything and me, someone who hasn’t eaten meat or poultry since college. I can cook, adapt and substitute with the best of them, I was up for the challenge.

I just needed to pull it all together- an organized plan and road map for a better way to a more luscious life. I wanted to have it all, without the fuss, muss and hysteria. Using simple kitchen organization techniques, flexible meal planning strategies, easy and delicious no fuss recipes and clever conversation tricks with my husband and kids, dinner time has now become a cherished time for family, food and fun.

I’ve figured it out and I’m willing to share  my secrets. Moms should be that way. I’ve done all the heavy lifting so you don’t have to. Now, you too can lead a luscious life even if your  cooking know how is more how than know.

Here are 5 Things you Should Know About Me.

  1. I wasn’t always a great cook.

In high school I told my Mom her cooking sucked. Her response was to buy me The Joy of Cooking and The Betty Crocker Cookbook: Everything you Need to Know to Cook from Scratch. I was required to cook one dinner each week. As fate would have it, my mother was on a diet and made her own meal. My older brother purposely ate a huge late after school “snack” and wasn’t hungry. My dad was conveniently playing racquetball with the guys after work on my designated cooking nights. My poor younger brother was stuck at home saddled with the task of eating my inedible glop. It didn’t take long before I was banned from the kitchen. My exile lasted for years. Hence the need for my later acquisition of a treasure trove of cookbooks and cooking classes. I am now That Mom with That Home. Armed with Balaboosta’s Secrets, you can cut to the chase and spare yourself and your family years of dull meals and ruined appetites.

  1. Although I have a great memory- sometimes I forget things…like my kids

I once left my then infant daughter in her car seat by my garage door when I went to pick up my young son at preschool. Oops! Sorry, thought I put her in the car. Apparently not! Good thing the preschool was nearby. I blamed lack of sleep.

  1. I suck at bowling.

After all these years, I’m still waiting to shatter 100…I don’t play often, but on those rare occasions I do, hope springs eternal. I do however play a mean game of Yatzhee and Uno. Game on.

  1. I’m a work in progress.

I’ve got more jiggle in my wiggle than I’d like to have but my legs are sturdy and get me where I want to go. I want to be stronger, leaner with more va-va-va-voom and I’m getting there. I know what I need to do to thrive and I know I’ll reach whatever goal I set for myself. I welcome the journey. That said, try as I might, I’ll never be taller.

  1. I don’t always cook from scratch.

Let’s be honest. I live in the real world.
